Is the baby covered with ants or flies?
Yes – Gently brush the insects from the baby, place it in a small box with a clean T-shirt or towel, contact a rehabilitator immediately. DO NOT handle it otherwise, DO NOT attempt to feed it or give it water.
No – place the baby in a shallow box with a clean T-shirt or towel. Leave the box open. Place the box where you found the baby but shielded from direct sun. Stay out of sight for two or three hours keeping children and pets away. After that time, check on the baby. If it is still there you may try this again for another one-two hours. If mom has not taken it back after that period of time, contact a rehabilitator immediately. If it is dark or near dark when you find the baby, bring the box with the baby inside to a quiet, warm area away from human voices and activity including children and pets. DO NOT handle it otherwise, DO NOT attempt to feed it or give it water. Put the box out where you found the baby at sunrise and follow the instructions above.

No – Follow the instructions above for “ants”.
